Chandler High School has tabbed former Horizon, Desert Vista and Millard South (Nebraska) coach Ty Wisdom to be the Wolves next head football coach.
Wisdom announced his departure from Millard South Friday afternoon. Sources confirmed Wisdom left to lead the Chandler football team.
"I want to thank Millard South for the incredible opportunity to serve as the head football coach over the last three years," Wisdom wrote in a post on social media. "It has been an absolute honor to work with such dedicated athletes, supportive families, and an amazing community."
The move comes after Rick Garretson announced his retirement from coaching following the Wolves' first-round loss in the 6A Conference playoffs. Garretson, who was a longtime assistant at Chandler under Shaun Aguano, took over the program in 2019 after Aguano departed for Arizona State University to join the staff under Herm Edwards.
Wisdom returns to the Valley after spending the last three seasons coaching Millard South. In just three years with the Patriots, Wisdom led them to a state championship win this season. In August, Millard South traveled to Chandler to face Basha.
Since the loss to the Bears, Millard South rolled through Nebraska-based opponents.
"These years have been filled with unforgettable moments," Wisdom said, "and I'm deeply grateful for the relationships and memories we've built together. Thank you for trusting me to lead this program -- Millard South will always hold a special place in my heart."
Wisdom spent five years as the head coach at Horizon from 2016-2020. He led the Huskies to an Open Division appearance in 2019. He departed for Desert Vista in 2021, leading the Thunder to the playoffs in his only season.
Wisdom then left the state for Nebraska.
He now takes over a Chandler team that didn't make the Open Division for the first time since its inception. The Wolves battled multiple injuries to key players, including quarterback Will Mencl, who was lost late in the season alongside star linebacker Aiden Browder.
Wisdom inherits a team with multiple returning starters and lower-level programs that excelled this season.
