It's the last week of the regular season before the playoffs for girls volleyball. This week’s Athletes Unlimited Game of the Week takes us to Scottsdale in a 5A East Sky matchup between the Horizon Huskies and the Notre Dame Prep Saints.Â
The Huskies have held the crown for the past three seasons as the 5A state champions. Last year was their first season with current Head Coach McKenna Skaggs, who led them to the victory.
They are currently No. 2 in the 5A alignment and are sitting at 13-3 on the season. They will try to keep their perfect record against teams in their region in the last game of the regular season against No. 5 Notre Dame Prep.
Notre Dame Prep moved up from the 4A alignment to the 5A alignment for the 2022 season after winning the 4A state championship the year before. The team is 12-4 this season led by Head Coach Ali Svorinic.
A player to look out for in this game is Horizon senior outside hitter Teraya Sigler who is ranked 12th in the state for kills with 371, and 9th in the state with a 0.414 hitting percentage. Sigler will put up a fight for Notre Dame Prep who must work together to stop her and the dominant Horizon team.Â
A win for the Saints could drop the Huskies in the 5A rankings since Chaparral and Centennial also have a record 13-3, with one more game left. This game is detrimental for Horizon to keep the No. 2 spot.
The teams will go head to head Wednesday night at Horizon High School, for an important season finale.
